Katten Elljay concentrates on a variety of service lines that fall under the renewable energy, carbon and climate change arena. These include, but are not restricted to:
· Financial Services · Consultancy · Research · Law · Engineering · Project Management · Project Development · Public Sector · Charity
Our offices are situated in London but we engage with clients all over the world and have also developed an impressive database of international candidates, operating at all levels. Attending global conferences and networking events throughout the year we ensure that our client and candidate base remains diverse and incorporates the very best individuals in the market.
How We Recruit
Our unique business model reflects the candidate-driven market in which our clients operate. We understand that every company will naturally have its preferred way of recruiting new employees. To this end we provide a tailor-made recruitment solution that suits your business's needs. We can operate on a contingent, search or selection basis depending on your recruitment strategy and we are proud to offer a top quality service at extremely competitive rates. At Katten Elljay we use a number of methods to source and qualify our candidates.
Specific Internet and Published Advertising Katten Elljay subscribes to a range of niche renewable, carbon and climate internet sites aimed specifically at our target audience. We have also developed working relations with various professional journals with whom we advertise on a regular basis.
Headhunting When headhunting Katten Elljay adopts a strict “hands-off” policy for any client for whom the company is recruiting. We will only actively headhunt from those we denote as “source” clients. We are confident that good business ethics and strong success in the market place go very much hand in hand and this is the reason why we would never approach any client with whom we work. Our headhunting methods have proved extremely successful for us in the past and we consider this as an integral part of what we do at Katten Elljay.
Referrals A large proportion of our placements has been a result of recommendations. We always ask our candidates whether they know of any colleagues or friends who may consider new opportunities. On the basis that “good people know good people” we have managed to expand our database and in turn our success in placing talented candidates. Another benefit of recruiting in this way is the exclusivity that we often obtain through working with referred candidates. To increase this database we offer financial incentives, a proportion of which is donated to our designated charity, Footprint Friends.
Networking As “People Consultants” we place a very strong emphasis on social networking. We believe that the importance of placing a candidate lies not only in the technical but also the cultural fit within a company and so we make it a high priority to attend national and indeed global conferences, seminars and other relevant networking events to understand fully the nature of the company and the aspirations of the candidate. Historically a large number of new clients and candidates has been generated through this proactive way of recruiting and so we continue to consider networking as a top priority in our business development.
Referencing Every candidate we place with Katten Elljay is reference-checked by a Director. We then go one step further with this process and use this opportunity to develop our contact base, both from a candidate and a client perspective. We fully understand that clients may be candidates and vice-versa so treat each party appropriately.
The Katten Elljay Selection Process In order to maintain the highest levels of service to each of our clients, Katten Elljay applies the following processes as standard:
Specialist Consultants Katten Elljay believes that in order to provide an unrivalled service to its clients, it is imperative that our knowledge of the market is developed enough to set us apart from the volume of general recruiters in the market. To this end we regularly attend seminars and business conferences and keep up to date with the latest publications. This also ensures that we keep abreast of the key players in the renewables, carbon and climate change industry.
Selective Registration Process Before we arrange to meet our candidates we conduct an over-the-phone screening process. This enables us to understand our candidate’s requirements, skill sets and motivations for moving to ensure that we can provide them with the best possible advice and direction and subsequently match them with jigsaw-fit opportunities when we meet. We will only meet with candidates who we know will add value to an employer and if we are unable to assist with the candidate’s career direction we will advise them on alternative companies that are more suited to their area of expertise.
The Katten Elljay Rendez-Vous Once we have spoken to the prospective candidate over the phone and qualified them appropriately we will then arrange, where possible, a face-to-face meeting. Two directors will participate at this appointment which generally lasts an hour. The Katten Elljay Rendez-Vous is structured to cover the following areas: · Our candidate’s entire career history including his/her technical skill set · Our candidate’s career aims and aspirations · Our candidate’s motivations for moving (this acts as a tool for the management of counter offers further along the line) · The kind of environment in which our candidate desires to work (this enables us to fit our candidate culturally as well as technically into his/her new role) · Other positions that our candidate is currently considering and how they compare to our client’s opportunity · Our candidate’s current salary package and expectations for next role
Job specific questions When discussing a new role with a client, Katten Elljay always asks the client if there any questions relating to the specific position that they would like us to run through with our candidate before presenting them for the position. This enables us to provide a more succinct and relevant shortlist ensuring that the recruitment process is all the more efficient and effective.
Reference Checks Our standard procedure at Katten Elljay is to reference check each and every individual not just in their previous role but in any roles in which they have worked for the previous 5 years. We understand the importance of these checks and so always obtain feedback from line managers or colleagues who worked directly with the candidate. By speaking with the referees as opposed to requesting written references, we can probe further into the candidate’s background. We then match the feedback received with the reasons for leaving that the candidate gave in order to ensure consistency and an accurate presentation of our candidate to the client. Our probing also explores the relationships our candidates had with their team members to guarantee as far as possible that we only put forward candidates with an exact match to the specification. Visa Status We obtain all passport and visa information from our candidates before we put them forward for any roles. As we operate on a global basis we check that each candidate has the right to work in the country where the role is based. We have a broad database of international candidates and significant experience in managing the sponsorship process. We are always happy to arrange an appointment with our clients to go through our global database and discuss possibilities of interviewing international candidates who are seeking sponsorship. Criminal Convictions When we meet with our candidates for the first time we always ask that they fill in the details regarding unspent convictions. If any issues arise, the client is informed immediately and all relevant information is passed on.
Qualification Checks Another procedure that we carry out on meeting with the candidate involves confirming the qualifications, the institutions in which the candidate studied, and the results achieved. We take photocopies of the candidate’s education certificates and keep them on file for our client to review if necessary.
Pre-Interviews Before every interview a face-to-face meeting is arranged between our candidate and a Director. During this appointment the motivations for moving to a new role are reconfirmed as is their technical and cultural fit for the company for which they are interviewing. We also go through counter-offer scenarios so that the candidate is ready to accept offers as they arise.
Client and Candidate Feedback Sessions We ask the candidate to call us or drop into our offices immediately after the interview while the meeting is still fresh in their minds. We run through the interview with them in detail and take down their initial feedback from the meeting to provide to the client. We reassess their motivations to move in order to reconfirm their commitment for the job. We prepare them for the resignation process and continue to offer tactical advice on dealing with counter-offers.
Our Database and Candidate Generation We understand the importance of a fast and efficient recruitment service. Katten Elljay has up-to-date market leading software packages that allow us to access any information that the client requires over the phone or via email. Our directors are trained to use industry specific websites, databases and advertising software and attend training days when software is updated. At Katten Elljay we also aim to respond to any email or telephone queries within 24 hours.
Our Motto – Dare to be Great Our motto "Dare to be Great" is an embodiment of the entire Katten Elljay approach. By encouraging candidates to focus on their individual strengths and unique potential in the market place, our goal is to steer and advise them along their professional journey in order that they develop and excel in their career and become invaluable assets to our client.
Finally, we hope that this information helps you understand the way in which Katten Elljay operates. We will be more than happy to answer any outstanding queries so please do give us a call or drop us an email and we will respond immediately. Dare to be Great!
